  Brepolis Medieval Databases
Access Info: Ohio U. - Athens campus only (including off-campus access)

Brepolis Medieval Databases contain several sections and offer a comprehensive research tool for the Middle Ages. The contents are summarized below:

The BREPOLiS Medieval Bibliographies consist of a combination of the International Medieval Bibliography (IMB),for articles, and the Bibliographie de Civilisation Medievale (BCM), for books:

International Medieval Bibliography
The IMB database comprises records deriving from articles published in periodicals (journals) and in miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, collected essays, Festschriften and exhibition catalogues) published world-wide.
All subjects relating to the Middle Ages are included, within the date range 300-1500 AD. Geographical areas covered are Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
Bibliographie de Civilisation Medievale
Aims to provide a comprehensive, current bibliography of monographs worldwide and listings of miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, essay collections or Festschriften).
Intitially the bibliography focuses on the Central Middle Ages, but the coverage will be expanded in stages to cover both the Early and Late Middle Ages. The Bibliographie de civilisation medievale currently comprises 40,000 titles from 1958 to 2003, i.e. the whole of the relevant elements from the famous bibliography in the Cahiers de civilisation medievale.

The Brepolis Medieval Encyclopaedias platform comprises three different databases:

Lexikon des Mittelalters online (LexMA)
Published in German between 1977 and 1999, LexMA's 36,700 signed articles written by 3,000 authors covers all aspects of medieval studies within the period 300 to 1500. Its geographical scope covers the whole of Europe, part of the Middle East, and parts of North Africa to document the roots of Western culture and those of its neighbours in the Byzantine, Arab and Jewish worlds.
International Encyclopaedia for the Middle Ages -- A Supplement to LexMA online (IEMA)
Supplement LexMA with articles focused on medieval Europe, North Africa and the Middle East in the period 500 to 1500. Dioceses, prelates and scholastic authors, as well as peoples, tribes and cultures, are among the first subjects to be undertaken by our authors. Active links to the International Medieval Bibliography and the Bibliographie de civilisation medievale, both published by Brepols, are also integrated into IEMA.
Europa Sacra
Contains a complete compilation of information relating to the prelates of the medieval Church (bishops, archbishops, patriarchs), and of the 1,300 dioceses, archdioceses and patriarchates under Roman obedience in the medieval era.
