Access Info: Ask for materials at Alden Library Microforms Dept.

This huge collectioin contains pre-1920 primary source materials about the role of women throughout history.

The set contains nearly 8,500 volumes of printed books, approximately 2,000 pamphlets, 117 periodical titles (1,400 volumes), 80,000 pages of manuscript, and 800 photographs (reel 963). The set covers all subjects involving women worldwide. The collection was produced from the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College and the Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe College, plus other collections for specific subjects.

ALICE has specific listings for most individual titles in this set. The call number HQ1121.H67x is a clue that the item is part of the History of Women collection. Also, if you find an item on ALICE, be sure to note reel information toward the end of the full bibliographic record.)

The 408-page printed guide, MICRO Z7965.H577 1983x, remains a good browsing guide to the collection. This guide includes a reel guide summary, alphabetical main-entry index, periodicals title list, subject/name index, and name index to the photographs.

Please consult with Microform Staff to locate the collection, currently filed as "Microfilm 6", over 1300 reels. Staff--note that the periodicals are first, with reel numbers, and that the reel numbers start over with the main body of the collection, pamphlets (reel 935-) manuscripts last (reel 964-).
