Listed below, going under various names, central files, general files, confidential files, decimal files, or record group 59 are records taken from the Department of State's Internal and Foreign Affairs Subject Classifications of files now housed in the United States National Archives. This material consists mainly of reports, documents and correspondence received from and sent to diplomatic posts covering a wide range of reporting on political, military, social and economic developments, minutes, interviews, texts of letters and instructions, and foreign documents and translations of foreign documents.
