Online access to a growing database of full-text books, articles and dissertations on selected cultures of the world. Topics such as childrearing, social life, economic systems, political systems, and medical systems are included. In addition to classic traditions such as the Maya, groups such as Arab-Americans are also included.
The eHRAF database is unique because it employs two classification systems: the Outline of World Cutlures(OWC)which classifies cultures; and the Outline of Cultural Materials (OCM) that provides a subject index for aspects of cultural and social life. The full-text sources are numerically indexed at the paragraph level to enhance retrieval. For instance, a searcher can use the code, "753" to retrieve information on illness causation instead of employing keywords.
For those using or teaching the database online guides are available.HRAF User Guide and Tutorials.
