U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
(National Archives and Records Administration )

NARA's webite contains historic documents including Our Documents, exhibits, classroom resources and well guides and indexes for researching and using NARA materials. It is a good complement to the Library of Congress American Memory Project.

NARA preserves and provides access to the nation's historical record. It is an independent federal agency overseeing the management of all federal records.

Note about microform from NARA:

The Microform Collection has an extensive collection of materials purchased directly from NARA, much of it not cataloged.

The largest portion of this material consists of Department of State diplomatic instructions and consular dispatches, records concerning internal affairs of other countries, U. S. relations to countries, and relations between countries. Additional Department of State materials have been purchased through private vendors and are cataloged separately. Please consult ALICE. Much of this material, both cataloged and uncataloged, can be located thru Infotree of name of the country of interest or some other keyword.

Also within this collection can be found a wide range of inquiries, tribunals, & commissions; "seized" enemy records; Papers of the Continental Congress; and older records of various departments of the U. S. Government such as the Department of Interior (Indian Affairs). Much of this material can be located thru Infotree using a keyword that would likely appear in the name of the series or title.

For a more specific overview of what the Library has, or what might be available, consult the marked U. S. National Archives Sales Catalog (please inquire at the Microform Desk, 1st floor of Alden).

The National Archives has published roll guides to many of the specific items. A set of roll guides, including to series not owned by the Library, are in the Government Documents Department (GS4.20: 'series no.'). For a full comprehensive guide to the contents of the U.S. National Archives also consult the Guide to Federal Records in the U.S. National Archives, Documents Department index shelves, Fifth floor, AE 1.108:G94/.

The NARA Archives Library Information Center's on-line version of the Microfilm Publications Catalog may lead to more information as well.

The microfilm is on the First Floor, Microfilm 11, and is sub-arranged by National Archives micropublication number, "M" series and "T" series. Please inquire at Desk.
