Jesuit relations and allied documents: travels and explorations of the Jesuit missionaries in New France, 1610-1791.
Access Info: Ask for materials at Alden Library Microforms Dept.

The Jesuits kept detailed records about their travels and observations in what is now New England and the Great Lakes region of United States and Canada. Providing a rich resource for materials, this set of writings contains the original French, Latin, and Italian texts plus English translations, notes, and a exhaustive analytical index. This 73-volume set was originally published 1896-1901, edited by Reuben Gold Thwaites.

There several sources for this material:

  • Microopaque cards: please inquire at the First Floor Service Desk (M/Card, "Jesuit..."). The first few cards have general contents. The last two volumes comprise the analytical index.
  • High-reduction microfiche; Jesuits, Library of American civilization (CB5 .L53x; fiche 21463-90). Between the two microform formats, the cards may be better for copying; please inquire.
  • The Regional Campus Libraries, in particular, have hardcopy reprints of this series
