This interactive site is a basic resource in regards to the 'geographical' condition of the United States. In addition to reference information, and high-quality, small-scale maps, this site includes an interactive map making feature.
First, the user selects (maps) a specific geographic areas, such as county, state, and zip code boundaries or geographic coordinates like latitude and longitude. Then one can combine/overlay geospatial and geostatistical data sets - - e.g. agriculture, biology, boundries, climate, environment, geology, history, places, population, social-cultural factors, transportation, water resources and features, topography, etc.
The National Atlas of the United States also has much in the way of downloadable data sets and gateways to other government data resources.
